Hi friends! In case you missed it, the Sapphic Saturday Readathon for the month of October took place over the weekend. If you’re new and aren’t sure what the readathon is, it’s a 24 hour readathon run by Arin @ Tomes of Our Lives and I that focuses on reading f/f content! You check out my post here introducing it if you want to learn more!
This month was a bit of a more relaxed readathon (although it’s really already relaxed to begin with). We skipped the reading sprints this time, but if you missed them, let us know! We aren’t doing away with them, they just weren’t present this time around!
I had so much fun tracking the Sapphic Saturday hashtag and seeing what everyone was reading. We had some new participants this month and I’m so excited that more people have joined in on the fun! Let’s get started.
My original TBR for this readathon was included in my October Sapphic Saturday Announcement post as follows:
- These Witches Don’t Burn – Isabel Sterling
- Her Royal Highness (Royals #2) – Rachel Hawkins
- Beauty of the Broken – Tawni Waters
Per usual, I didn’t follow my own TBR, but I have a super good excuse this time! I did manage to read 2 of those 3, but I replaced Beauty of the Broken with a sapphic book that a close friend of mine just recently self-published (Support your friends! Support self-publishing authors!!!). So, I ended up reading (in this order):
- The Desire for the Color Yellow – Dilsa Matos
- These Witches Don’t Burn – Isabel Sterling
- Her Royal Highness (Royals #2) – Rachel Hawkin
12:00 AM – Since The Desire for the Color Yellow is a shorter novel, I decided to give myself a good start and pick this one up first! To share a little, this novel is about two best friends (one out as a lesbian, one with a non-specified sexuality but dating a boy!). One is in love with the other, grief ensues, heartbreak is present, but a happy ending wraps it all up. This is definitely a friend-to-lovers trope!
1:00 to 2:00 AM – By 1 o’clock, I was already at page 88 because this is such a quick read! I decided to stop reading at 1:18 AM on page 120 so I could head to bed. I did, however, start the audio of These Witches Don’t Burn while laying down so I could still get some reading in!
Sometime in the middle of the night to 8:30 AM – I’m unsure of when exactly I fell asleep listening to the audio for These Witches Don’t Burn, but I got about 30% in. I woke up around 8:30 the next morning! I was feeling a little tired and under the weather so I decided to stay in bed for a while and play games on my phone while I kept listening to the audio!
Approx. 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM – I listened to an additional 35% of the audio throughout the next few hours whilst going about my morning, which put me at 65%! At this time, I decided to take a break from These Witches Don’t Burn and pick up The Desire for the Color Yellow again.
12:37 PM to 1:00 PM – At 12:37 PM, I finished reading my first October Sapphic Saturday read, The Desire for the Color Yellow! Once completed, I went back to listening to my audiobook while working on some arts and crafts!
2:00 PM to 3:00 PM – At 2:45, I finished my second book for the readathon, These Witches Don’t Burn! I was feeling pretty good about my progress at that point, but I wanted to take a little bit of a break, so I waited about 45 minutes before diving into another read.
3:30 PM – I picked up Her Royal Highness at this time. I was super excited to finally read this one because I’ve heard Arin rave about it and I’ve had it sitting on my shelves just waiting for this readathon!
4:30 PM – Because this was another super quick read, within an hour I was on page 83! I was really invested in this one and loving it just as much as Arin said I would!
5:00 PM – At page 124 I decided to take a bit of a break! I somehow completely forgot to take notes after this point so I’m unsure of when I picked it back up.
6:00 to 10:00 PM – Like I said, I’m unsure of when I picked this back up, but I definitely took a break for a few hours. I finished this for my third completed October Sapphic Saturday read at 10:07 PM! At this point, there were only a couple of hours left in the readathon and although I could’ve started on Beauty of the Broken, I felt pretty good about how I’d done and decided to end it with this one.
11:00 to 12:00 PM – I didn’t read, but I did converse with some of you on Twitter and creep on everyone’s progress!
To recap, I read 3 books, which included 9 hours and 47 minutes of an audiobook, and 471 pages from physical books! I had a lot of fun and hope that anyone who participated did as well!
Stay tuned for the next date announcement!
(If you’ve posted a wrap-up and want to be included here, let me know! I’ll gladly add your link!)
