To clarify quickly: this list does not just include fall releases!! I am unfortunately just not the type of book lover who can keep up with release dates very well so I barely ever have a ton of anticipated releases. However, I do have a ton of books, whether they are old or new, that I am so looking forward to reading this season!
As you’ll notice, most of these books fall under a few specific categories:
- magical realism
And, as “basic” as that might sound, I can’t help it, OK? I’m a mood reader and even though it’s still going to get up into the 90s today in good ole North Carolina, I’m feeling the spooky spirit™.
I’ve also stopped making monthly TBRs for myself because even though I was getting kind of good with keeping up with them, a list to follow kind of ruins my reading moods sometimes. So, in place of that, I’m just going to give you the 6 books I’m most looking forward to reading over the next couple of months!
Imaginary Friend – Stephen Chbosky
Okay so… I’m actually already currently reading this but I’m still including it on this list because it has been one of the books that I’ve been the most excited about ever since I caught wind that Stephen Chbosky was not only publishing a new book but a new horror book! Reviews for this have been super mixed lately and I’m only about 40% in so I’m not far enough to give my opinion yet. I will say, however, that so far I’m liking it well enough and that the spooky factor has been really creeping me out when I read late at night! This isn’t officially out until October 1st so if you’re looking for a long adult horror book for the Halloween season, maybe look for this one!
The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle – Stuart Turton
I would be lying to you if I said I wasn’t first intrigued by this book because of it’s very similar to the title of one of my favorite reads of 2019, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. However, I love a good mystery/thriller and have heard good things about this one from other thriller lovers, so I’m super excited to find out if I love the style as much as many of them did!
The Wife Between Us – Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen
I got to read an ARC of these authors’ other book together (An Anonymous Girl) a little while back and was absolutely entranced by their writing! That novel was less mysterious and more suspenseful, but I’ve heard that this one has a super surprising plot twist. Plot twists that I can’t see coming are, understandably, my absolute favorite. I also tend to enjoy mysteries in new adult or adult books much more for some reason. I feel like YA mysteries are never as adrenaline-boosting for me.
Undead Girl Gang – Lily Anderson
I have been wanting to read this since I saw the title on NetGalley and a copy is finally making its way to me in the mail right now and I am so excited! This has mystery, fantasy, and paranormal tags on Goodreads which sounds like such an interesting combination to me. I know that two of the main characters participate in witchcraft which makes me really excited to read it during Autumn! I believe that Leelynn from Sometimes Leelynn Reads and I will be doing a buddy read on this one which makes me even more excited!
These Witches Don’t Burn – Isabel Sterling
Speaking of witches…. I have holding off on this one for a painfully long amount of time (ever since I read Caitlin’s @ Caitlin Althea book review!) in order to read it 1) for October’s Sapphic Saturday and 2) around the Halloween season. I finally got around to purchasing a physical copy so I won’t be limited to the audio (which is available on Scribd if you’re interested in this one!). I am also absolutely in love with the cover and so happy to have this on my shelves.
Her Royal Highness – Rachel Hawkins
So, this one isn’t scary or fantastical but there is a princess in it so… I still think it qualifies for the Halloween season ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. This wasn’t really on my radar until Arin @ Tomes of Our Lives read it and really loved it. It’s another f/f book as well which makes my heart super happy. To be honest, I don’t know too much about this one yet besides the whole princess and girls loving girls thing but… that’s kind of already enough information for me to want to read it. I’m a simple gal. Give me f/f, a pretty cover, and the recommendation from one of my favorite book reviewers and I’ll read it!
Alright friends, that’s the list! I’m definitely planning to read more than these 6 books over the next couple of months but these are the ones I’m most looking forward to! What books are you hoping to read this Fall??
