Announcement: Sapphic Saturdays First Readathon

Note: Arin is credited for designing & making all of the graphics for Sapphic Saturday! Didn’t she do such a great job!?

This is the most excited I’ve ever been to make a post/announcement!

Those of you who follow Arin & I on Twitter may already know a little about this, but if you don’t, then allow me to introduce it!

Sapphic Saturday’s are 24 hour readathons that I am now co-hosting with Arin @ Tomes of Our Lives. The name kind of explains it all: the readathons take place starting at midnight on predetermined Saturdays, and end at 11:59 PM the same night! The readathon is meant to boost sapphic reads, AKA female/female books!

These readathons will take place monthly (and occasionally bi-monthly) on dates that Arin and I will announce a couple of weeks beforehand. For our first readathon, we are going very simple: 24 hours, f/f reads, and no challenges! We are hoping to include challenges and/or themes in coming readathons, but we wanted this first one to be relaxed and fun.

So, now on to the fun part: announcing the date for our first readathon!

The first ever Sapphic Saturday Readathon is taking place on September 7th, 2019. We invite anyone and everyone who would like to participate to join in your timezone! We will be doing Twitter sprints, so make sure to follow our account to keep up with them: @sapphicsaturday. You are also welcome to use the hashtag #sapphicsaturdays to follow updates and contribute your own! Additionally, for those of you who enjoy sharing pictures & visuals of your progress during readathons, we will be creating a group Snapchat specifically for Sapphic Saturdays. Arin and I both really enjoy taking pictures for our readathons, so we thought this would be a fun way to incorporate that into it. Anyone who is participating will be invited to join the group!

Arin and I both will be making posts after the readathon of how it went (AKA, what we read, how much we read, visual details, etc) so we invite you to take part in that as well!

My Sapphic Saturday TBR

Honestly, this is a highly unrealistic TBR for 24 hours, but I’ve been holding off on tons of f/f reads lately to save for these readathons, so I’m super excited.

Annie on My MindAnnie on My Mind – Nancy Garden

I have had this book on my TBR for literal years so I figured it was time I finally get around to it. What better time than a sapphic readathon!?

These Witches Don't BurnThese Witches Don’t Burn – Isabel Sterling

I have been really looking forward to listening to the audio for this since I found it available on Scridb. I saved it especially for this readathon and I am soooo excited to finally listen to it!

The Apocalypse of Elena MendozaThe Apocalypse of Elena Mendoza – Shaun David Hutchinson

I’ve read pretty mixed reviews on this book, but I’m interested to see if I’ll enjoy it! In addition to the main character having a crush on a girl, she’s also supposed to apparently have some type of ability to heal/save the world. So, call me intrigued.

Girls of Paper and Fire (Girls of Paper and Fire, #1)Girls of Paper and Fire – Natasha Ngan

My interest in this book is 100% based on the hype I’ve seen around it. That, and the fact that the cover is purple.

Like I said, it’s an unrealistic TBR and there’s pretty much zero chance I’ll read all of these, but I’m excited to try! Make sure to check out Arin’s announcement post to see what books she put on her TBR!

I really hope to see some of you participating and am stoked for September 7th!

Note: I had originally included Tash Hearts Tolstoy by Kathryn Ormsbree on this list, but I had mixed it up with another book and was thinking it was a f/f rep book. It is not, however, and instead is recommended as a spectacular ace rep novel!

    1. Thank you so much for letting me know this! I think that I got it confused with another book review I read during pride month and have been thinking this whole time that it was f/f. I just checked out Arin’s review and you’re completely right; it’s ace rep! I still need to read it, but it’s definitely not for this readathon! Thank you so much for bringing that to my attention!

      1. No problem, Brittany! I scoured reviews too (despite reading it) because I forget things at times. It’s a great ace book! I definitely recommend it and I hope you get to it soon!!

      2. I’m facepalming for mixing it up, but I’m so glad you pointed it out! The eBook is available on Scridb and now that I realize I’ve had it mixed up this whole time, I can stop saving it for the readathon and read it sooner!! I’m excited for it!

  1. I’m participating in this!! I never participate in readathons during the school year, but this–I think–will take place on a Friday night for me and I always do nothing on Friday nights! I’ll probably just binge read Colorblind, and maybe Gideon the Ninth! the timing of this readathon is *perfect* because all of my TBR for September is f/f!!

    1. Yay, I’m so excited you’re joining in! Colorblind was a read I considered for this too because Arin actually finished it not too long ago, but I have SO many f/f reads already on my TBR that I thought I should check some of those off first 😅 I’m SUPER excited for this readathon to hurry up and get here and am soooo glad that you’re participating!

  2. Brittany- In September I will be running a daily writing prompt based on the title of a well-regarded book where the main character is a lesbian or a woman exploring her sexual identity. https://braveandrecklessblog.com/2019/08/21/announcing-septembers-smitten-writing-prompt-challenge/

Also, Indie Blu(e) Publishing will be releasing Smitten this Fall. Let me know if you would be interested in reading and reviewing it. https://www.facebook.com/SMITTENwomen/

    1. I will definitely be participating in those writing prompts! I am not sure that I will be able to participate every day; is that alright? I really enjoy writing prompts and would love to join in on this!

I also looked into Smitten and would absolutely love to read and review it! I love poetry and would love to support this poetry collection!
