Sunshine Blogger Award (AKA my favorite nomination ever)

Last week, Jayme over at Coffee, Crumbs & Books posted about her Sunshine Blogger Award (congratulations, by the way, Jayme!). She nominated me among a few others for this award as well, and I am stoked.

What is the Sunshine Blogger Award?

The Sunshine Blogger Award is given to bloggers by bloggers in recognition for inspiring positivity and creativity within the blogging community.

Here’s a secret: this is my absolute favorite award nomination that I’ve received. I’m always so thankful and happy to get nominated (especially because I think there’s something really great about other bloggers being the one to nominate you when they know what it takes to constantly create and put out content) but the Sunshine Blogger Award is one that I’ve coveted since I first read about it. I probably sound kind of over-dramatic right now, but here’s the thing: positivity and creativity are so important to me, and to be recognized for it is just really sweet to me. I know I’m rambling, but seriously, I’m really happy about this. Thank you so much for nominating me, Jayme!

The Rules:

  1. Write a post about your nomination and the award.
  2. Thank the blogger that nominated you and link to their blog.
  3. Display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo.
  4. List the rules within your blog post.
  5. Answer the eleven questions given to you by the blogger who nominated you in your post.
  6. Nominate eleven other bloggers and give them eleven questions to answer.

Jayme’s Questions:

1. When you read, do you need to have pure silence or do you have something playing in the background?

It actually doesn’t bother me at all either way! So long as someone isn’t trying to converse with me, I can completely block out sounds or sit comfortably in silence.

2. If you could meet any character from your favorite book and you had a day to spend with them, what would you want to spend your day doing?

This is actually really tricky because I have a hard time keeping one favorite book. I usually have a handful that I consider to be favorites, but for this I’ll just say that I would spend my time with Alaska from Looking for Alaska and I would honestly just want to hang out and talk about books and whatnot.

3. Did you have any other blog names you were considering before you finally decided on the one you have?

Actually, for quite some time at the beginning of this blog, my name was “Bookworm Brittany”. I really couldn’t explain to you why I didn’t like it, but it never felt right to me. I also like BrittanyTheBookFairy because I think it’s cool when people create new terms for book lovers. To be honest, I’m kind of tired of being called a worm… ya know? Fairies are 1000% better and I’d rather be a reading fairy than a reading worm. But regardless, I won’t be changing my name again. Just know that I’m not a bookworm, despite my old blog name. I’m a bookfairy instead.

4. What season do you feel you read the most in?

Spring. I really don’t know why, but I always fly through books around this time of the year. I don’t really like going outside (it’s hot and my skin is highly sensitive and burn like no one’s business) but I still feel like the atmosphere is just different somehow.

5. What is your favorite outdoor activity to do in the Spring/Summer?

I really truly do not have one. I hate public swimming (it’s like bathing with numerous other people and it makes me gag just to think about), the beach is too humid for me, and amusement parks give me literal headaches (everything gives me headaches since I have chronic migraines but I swear that amusement parks make it even worse).

6. What is your mantra for your life?

Hmm. I’m not sure that I have a single mantra really, but I try to live by, “It’s okay to put yourself first” and to other people I always say, “Do whatever you want so long as you are not hurting anyone”.

7. Is there a trope that you would give second chance?

No. I don’t hate all tropes, but if I’ve decided that I can’t stand one, then there’s really no going back for me.

8. What is your least favorite book from your favorite author?

I honestly don’t have a single favorite author, but the book that came to mind when I read this question was That Summer by Sarah Dessen. I love Dessen but oh my god that book was awful.

9. What is your top 3 favorite non-fiction books?

I only can think of one (I don’t read much non-fiction) and it’s We’re Going to Need More Wine by Gabrielle Union. I highly recommend the audiobook.

10. What is an ending of a book you were unsatisfied with and how would you want it rewritten? Make sure to add a ***spoiler alert***

I generally don’t hate endings but if I had to chose one, it would be the ending of The Hunger Games series. I don’t even know what I’d do differently, just not… that.

11. Do you think you’ll still be reading the same genre/tropes/authors 5 years from now?

Honestly, probably. I know I’m supposed to grow out of YA or whatever but I really like it. New adult is good sometimes but I just genuinely enjoy YA. I’ll be 27 by that point and I guess it’s possible that I’ll have moved on to the adult genre but I kind of doubt it.

My Questions for Nominees

  1. If, Universe forbid it, you were only able to keep five books and had to get rid of the rest, which five would you keep?
  2. What genre is your least favorite, and why?
  3. Are you a writer yourself, or just a reader?
  4. Do you have a favorite book-to-movie (or series) adaption?
  5. Do you know any lines of your favorite book/series by heart?
  6. Do you annotate your books?
  7. Out of all the ARCs you may have received, which has been your absolute favorite? If you don’t read ARCs, what are some you think you’d enjoy?
  8. On my shelves, my most common book cover color is black. What’s yours?
  9. Audiobooks, Ebooks, or physical books? Why?
  10. Do you think of yourself as creative?
  11. Finally, since this award is all about positivity, give your most positive, influential piece of advice for other bloggers.

  1. Aw thank you so much for nominating me Brittany! I appreciate that a lot❤️ And I loved reading your answers! I totally agree about the ending of the THG series. Ugh, that was just such a weak conclusion, right?? I wasn’t a fan. Also that is so funny that you didn’t like having “bookworm” in your blog name because I’ve been feeling the same way lately!! It was just the first thing that came to mind because of the alliteration haha but I want to change it soon. I really like your blog name now by the way, I think it’s super cute and unique 🙂 Great answers and thanks again for the nomination!

    1. You’re very welcome!! Your content is always very unique and interesting to me, so I wanted to make sure I nominated you! The ending for THG was just… not what it should’ve been? I feel like it was just not enough for such an otherwise spectacular series. The bookworm thing is always a struggle, lol. I had used it for the same exact reason: alliteration. There’s honestly nothing wrong it, but I just found that I didn’t feel like it suited me. I’m interested to see what you come up with if you do end up changing yours!! And thank you! The Book Guru was kind of a joke that popped into my head one day after watching both Booktube and Beauty videos online and I just thought I’d try it out!

  2. Thank you so much for tagging me!☺️💛 I usually tend to read the most in spring aswell! Think it’s when I feel most inspired! And I think I will alwayssss read YA even when I’m 90, it’s exciting, fun, sometimes cringey but hey ho! I can have a bit of cheese now and again!😂

  3. Ahh thank you so so much for tagging me, I can’t wait to answer your questions, they seem super fun!! I find it interesting that you can block noises out to read. I always have to have music playing or be in silence because I can’t block anything out ever (but that’s because I have an auditory processing disorder that doesn’t allow me to filter out background noise). Great post! I can’t wait to do this tag!

    1. I think reading has just always been such a safe space for me that allowed me to block out the outside world, even as a kid and whatnot. Thankfully it transferred over into my adult life, too, and it’s a very useful ability because it’s so rare that I get quiet time to myself 😂 If I ever chose to have kids, it’ll definitely be a valued skill 😂😂 Ah, I’m sorry to hear about your auditor processing disorder! What kind of music do you like to listen to while reading?

      1. I normally just listen to whatever album I’m stuck on at the moment, recently that has been Wild World by Bastille and Youngblood by 5 Seconds of Summer.

      2. Youngblood was one of my favorite songs around this time last year! I didn’t know if you liked purely instrumental music for reading or if you were comfortable with lyrical! I tend to go for classical music during reading, if I listen to any at all (which is so very off from my normal musical tastes but it’s generally soft and without words!)

  4. Thank you so much for the nomination, and sorry it took me so long to see your post — I didn’t get a pingback & haven’t really been hopping lately. It means so much to me though and I can’t wait to answer your questions!!!

And pfft to growing out of young adult. I am in my 30s and still enjoying it thoroughly.

    1. That’s OK! I’ve noticed that I sometimes don’t get pingbacks as well, or that other people don’t get pingbacks when I’ve tagged them. WordPress really needs to get its stuff together! You’re very welcome for the tag! You’re one of my favorite book bloggers; I couldn’t leave you out!!

And I truly think I’ll be reading YA as a grandma haha.
