While I don’t necessarily pride myself in having unpopular opinions, it is true that I often have them. It’s not rare for me to love a book that a lot of people hated or vice versa. I’m a firm believer in everyone reading a book differently so I don’t take it to heart when someone doesn’t feel the same way about a book as I do. So, with all of that being said, when I saw this tag, I knew I had to do it. I wasn’t tagged in this, but I saw it done by Berries & Books so you can check out her answers, too! If you’re interested and would like to do this as well, consider yourself tagged!
A popular book or series that you didn’t like:
The Montague Siblings books are just not for me. I feel like everyone loves them, but since I don’t do well with historical fiction, I gave up on this series like 10 pages in to the first book.
A popular book or series that everyone else seems to hate but you love:
Looking for Alaska isn’t hated by everyone, but I do see it get a lot of hate, so I’m going with it.
A love triangle where the main character ended up with the person you didn’t want them to end up with or an OTP you don’t like:
Even though I loved Edward in Twilight as a preteen, I loved Jacob more, and I ultimately wanted Bella to be with him. It would’ve changed the entire last book had that happened, but would that really have been so bad??
A popular book genre that you hardly reach for:
I’m not much of a fantasy fan. I can appreciate stories with a little magical realism but I’m not often drawn towards stories in the fantasy genre. I think that’s why I so often have no idea what characters/books other book bloggers are talking about, because it’s one of the most loved genres in the book community (from what I can tell).
A popular or beloved character that you do not like:
Literally the entire character cast of We Were Liars. I dislike that book.
A popular author that you can’t seem to get into:
Although I may be speaking too early since I’ve only read one of her books, I’m going with Francesca Zappia for this one. I could read her other novel and decide I was too hasty with this decision, but for now and based entirely on my experience with Eliza and Her Monsters, I’m not the mega fan of her that a lot of others are. Now, granted, I don’t dislike her either. She’s clearly a fantastic writer and creator to get the love she gets. I just am not as pulled to her.
A popular book trope that you’re tired of seeing:
Oh, that’s easy. Love triangles. I find them useless and dramatic in most cases.
A common series that you have no interest in reading:
Honestly, I think I’m open to just about anything at this point. I’ve spoken too soon plenty of times and said I’d never read a certain book but then later thought, “well, what the heck?”.
The saying goes “The book is always better than the movie”, but what movie or TV show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?
There are actually two movie adaptations that I prefer to the book: Love, Simon (adapted from Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda) and Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist (adapted from the novel of the same name).
