Non-Bookish Update: January

Hi everyone! The month of January is already almost over and I can’t help but think, “It did not go by this quickly last year”. But I’m also grateful because January was an awful month for my family and I in 2018 and we seem to be getting out of it unscathed this year (thank the universe). Since I rarely share things here that don’t somehow consist of books, I figured I’d start doing a monthly update to let you all know what’s going on in my life beyond my reading (as if you actually care, I know).

So, here we go!

This month, I…
  • started back up at school. My classes started on the 14th, meaning I’m only 11 days  in, and I’m already overwhelmed. One of my classes this semester is Economics, which was required for me to graduate (even though I’m an ENGLISH MAJOR and have NO USE for this class WHATSOEVER). I both enjoy and hate the class. I enjoy it because sometimes it makes me feel smart but I also hate it because most of the time it makes me feel incredibly stupid. Also, we have research papers due weekly and that’s not even something I’ve had to do for my English classes… and they’re writing intensive!!!
  • started learning to crotchet! OK, technically I learned a very small amount about crocheting when I was about 6 but if I remember correctly, I only knew how to chain. So far this month, I’ve learned a little bit of the lingo and a few stitches! I’ve become decent at granny squares and am actually making a blanket consisting of them! I’m doing it 9 squares x 13 squares, which comes out to 117 that I have to make, and stitch together. So far… I have 19. BUT I only started on it last Friday (the 18th) so I think that’s pretty good progress for a beginner.
  • started working on my re-branding! This is definitely the most exciting update I have, at least to me, because I’ve been wanting to do this for a few months and have finally started! Now, it’s going to take a while to finish this project because there is a lot to do when you’re re-branding, but it’s coming along! I’ve commissioned Vicky Who Reads to create a new banner for me in March, and I absolutely can’t wait to see it! She’s incredibly talented and I think she’ll take my concept and make it amazing. I’ve also found a new “theme layout” for my site which I will be changing to sometime in February. In the meantime, I’ve been making small changes that actually take up a ton of my time. Have you ever tried to redo your categories and tags? Because manually going back to reorganize all of your posts is exhausting. I’ve also been working on my menus and whatnot, so if you come across something that looks a bit odd or out of place on my site, I’m working on it! I’ll be changing my graphics at some point too, so just bear with me! It’s been a learning curve for me but I’m genuinely so excited to see how everything comes together.

So, that’s it for my big updates from the month of January! I know this isn’t a normal post that you may be used to seeing from me, but hopefully you didn’t completely hate it.

Did anything new or fun happen to you this month? Talk to me (:

  1. I was randomly assigned an economics class last semester as my freshman seminar. I’m on track to be a classical studies and history double major, so economics as my freshman seminar made no sense. Luckily everything worked out okay for me, but I feel your pain. Best of luck for the rest of the semester!

  2. Hi Brittany,
Looks like you’ve got a lot on your plate. I don’t know how you find the time to do school, blog every day, and crocheting too!

Since you asked, I’ve been very busy preparing for the publication of my new book. It’s called Fluffy’s Revolution and it’s YA sci-fi. Maybe it’s something you would be interested in reviewing. If you would like more info, shoot me an email at emiltonmyers@verizon.net or contact Justin Weeks at Black Rose Writing (sales@blackrosewriting.com). Cheers, Ted Myers

    1. Hi, Ted! So sorry for the late reply. I just realized that I missed this comment. I’d love to hear more about your book! I have an auto approval for Black Rose Writing on NetGalley. Do you know if they will be posting the book for early reviews? If so, I’ll certainly look into checking it out!
